weekend

Another fun-filled weekend with LA folks visiting for Kal's wedding!

On Friday, Joyce and I went to Berkeley. We tried La Note's brunch for the first time:

my yummy lemon gingerbread pancake with poached pear and scrambled eggs

Of course, a Berkeley trip would be incomplete without a stop by Cheeseboard and Love at First Bite:

At night, we met up with Joy and watched "The Secret," a new movie directed by and starring Jay Chou (Joyce's current obsession). It was pretty good--interesting, sweet love story. I can't say that I am on the Jay Chou fan wagon yet, but after seeing the movie, I can definitely understand the attraction.

On Saturday, we attended Kal's wedding in Los Altos. Kal was our high school counselor at BOL. He was the who led Byron to Christ! It was really nice seeing lots of BOL folks from long ago...

...including my discipler, Soraya! She discipled me from senior year in high school all the way through college. I hadn't seen her in seven years. It was sooo good to catch up and just share about what the Lord has been doing in each of our lives. It made me remember what I appreciated the most about her as a discipler: how real and honest she always is about her faith. So down-to-earth.

I also saw a girl that I discipled in college, who is soon going to be a missionary in China with her husband. Saw our old Sunday school teachers, college group counselors, all these faithful men and women who dedicated so much of their time to ministering to us in the formative years of our lives. Makes me really want to be involved in discipleship again. It's something I've thought about on and off for awhile; I'm going to pray and seriously think about it now.

Grace, me, and Joyce outside the church

us with the happy newlyweds, Karen and Kal!

Also lots of fun down time with Grace, Bran, and Joyce (who all stayed with us), and interesting conversations about faith, missions, divorce, and homosexuality. The weekend went by so fast; miss them all already.

La Note is Lily's favorite brunch place. You're hitting all the right spots in Berkeley.
