bizarre...

I was listening to NPR today and heard a program about a woman in her 40s who fell in love with a prison inmate at Pelican Bay. She met him through some writing program for inmates. It sounded kind of strange at first--she said that he helped her get through her post-divorce period and they talked about the crime he committed all the time. (This guy killed someone when he was 19.)

Yet by the end of the program I actually could sort of understand the connection. She said that all of the people who go to prison are wounded in some way, and that their friendship was based on the fact that both of them were wounded and needed another person to help them through a difficult time.
