I've been watching a lot of movies this summer. Even though this summer has been filled with lots of work, it's also been lots of fun too: studying with Felicia, Andrea, and Shally; watching movies in the theater and at home; hanging out at Berkeley and seeing Joy and Mike get engaged; meeting up with lots of people at cafes...this has definitely been the summer of cafes and movies.
I watched Casablanca with Summer and Joy tonight at the Stanford Theater. It was great. I love how old movies have great plots and dialogue. Some of it was a bit cheesy, like the way Ingrid Bergman's eyes were always filled with tears whenever she talked to Humphrey Bogart.
We also finally tried Pizza My Heart! Definitely want to go there again.
I'm still feeling a bit frantic from last week and having a hard time working. Basically, my adviser wrote to me and told me some good news and some bad news. The good news is that he likes my revised chapter 2 and says it's pretty much good to go for the dissertation. The bad news is, he wants me to focus on preparing for the academic job market this fall season and worry about finishing my dissertation next spring. Next spring!!! So I've been trying to do both, and feeling pretty stressed in the process. I know that preparing my materials for the job market will take a lot of time, but I don't want to wait until next spring to finish my dissertation. I'm frustrated because I feel like the end is finally in sight, but now I can't focus on getting there, I need to be sidetracked by this other thing. We'll see what happens. I know it's ultimately up to God, and if he wants me to wait until next spring, I can do that. I just really hope that I can finish earlier.
On a happier note, here's a link that Sam sent me about my favorite b-ball player, Dirk. He's such a hard-working guy, and such a sweetie too! I love the quote about his mom hounding him over cutting his hair. I wonder where Wuerzburg is, and whether if I went there I would be able to meet him...
