taiwan trip
Finally found time to post an update and pictures from my Taiwan trip! Overall, it was a good trip. My favorite part about it was getting to spend 1.5 weeks with my sister, Joyce, and also seeing lots of family and childhood friends. It was pretty tiring in the first half, but during the second week I mostly stayed at home and watched lots of DVD's. I got to watch a K-soap, "Save the Last Dance," which I LOVED. :)
Although it was nice being back there, this trip was really different for me in terms of how I felt. For the first time, Taiwan seemed very foreign to me. I'm not sure what it was, but I just felt so American and so western. In the past, whenever I went to visit, I would always dream of coming back to live and work there. Yet this time, I had a harder time envisioning that. I still am interested and open to living in Asia, but we'll see what the future holds...
Now, onto the pictures!
On the way there, it was a really clear day, so I was able to see the icy glaciers of Alaska...

My first weekend there, we went to Taipei to see family friends. Auntie Yu-Zhi and Uncle Huai-Bing are my parents' closest friends (we also stayed at their house). They both work at CEF in Taiwan, which is the Christian organization that my parents are also a part of.

We also managed to visit the Chang Kai-Shek Memorial, which I haven't been to since I was a little kid.

Met up with our friend, Enoch, who is actually the English secretary and foreign affairs consultant for the Taiwanese vice-president.

Later that night, we went to Sheng Keng, which is in the suburbs of Taipei--it's known for its stinky tofu and also its narrow streets.
On Sunday, we met up with Joy at her church and then went to have lunch at Sweet Dynasty, a Cantonese dessert franchise.
The rest of the time I was in Hsin Feng, where my grandma lives, which is near Hsin Chu. I visited my aunt, who lives nearby Hsin Chu. This is their new home:

my cousin (everyone always says she looks like me)
their doggy, Shao Guai (he really is very "guai"--good and obedient)
The rest of the pictures are typical days with my grandmother. We're visiting another lady's home after the "elderly women fellowship." My grandma is the one on the right

I ate so much while I was there. My grandma basically cooked something new each day, and there were usually 4-6 dishes per meal.

Some typical activities: hanging the wash outside...
The last day that I was there, my uncle came to visit from Taipei. He brought one of his dogs with him (has has four!): Di-Di
And that was my Taiwan trip! So thankful to be able to go and so glad to be back.

Ray, the son of Auntie Yu-Zhi and Uncle Huai-Bing, who is on furlough from serving with Operation Mobilization's MV Doulous ship. He has been all over the world these past four years, so it was a real treat to be able to see him. He is like a brother to me.
