five years!

We celebrated our five-year anniversary today with a simple, low-key afternoon and evening. I would have loved to be in LA for this special day--walk around UCLA and visit our old "date" places (Powell Library, Ackerman, Botanical Gardens), go to Huntington Library, eat cake from JJ Bakery (where we got our wedding cake), but alas, I am too far along in the pregnancy to comfortably travel that far. So we decided to walk around Stanford campus, another meaningful and sentimental place in our relationship.

For dinner, we ate at Osteria, one of our favorite restaurants in Downtown Palo Alto.

Five years! It seems like a long time, but also not so long. I'm so thankful for our marriage--each year the love does grow deeper. We've been together ten years (five years of dating and engagement and now five years of marriage)...that's a third of both of our lives! I can't imagine my life not intertwined with his.

I also can't believe that when we celebrate future anniversaries, it won't just be about the two of us, but we'll think of our marriage in relation to a third little person as well. It just boggles my mind. I'm a little nervous about how being parents will affect our marriage. These past five years have been so good and sweet...but I suppose that there will be new forms of goodness and sweetness to experience, new ways of knowing and appreciating each other.
