first week
I survived my first full week of teaching, tutoring, and working on my dissertation. Thank goodness I have nothing on campus tomorrow!

I led my first discussion section today as well...it went okay, I think. The students all talked a lot, but I still feel like I could do a much better job of guiding the discussion. It's hard for me to think on the spot, so sometimes I don't feel like I'm able to push them into deeper reflections and thoughts. I felt like our discussion today was a little too fluffy at times. I'm not really good at asking thought-provoking questions. I know it's only the first day, but I don't want my students to think that section is a waste of time. I want them to feel like they got something out of it. Oh, well, I guess I need to prepare more next week. Think harder, work harder, do better.

Tomorrow is Autumn festival! I bought some small mooncakes to share with Joy. I love mooncake. :)

Yikes, two more weeks until Big Sur 10k, three more weeks until my conference in L.A.! For the former, I'm still only at five miles, and for the latter, I'm not done with my paper yet. *deep breath*
...
And I must admit: I've been watching TV online. (There, I've said it.) Only ABC and NBC channels (darn that CW--otherwise, Gilmore Girls!), since they're the only ones that have been posting episodes online. Last week I watched a whole bunch of premieres, but I think I'm only going to follow two: Grey's Anatomy and Ugly Betty. I was watching Heroes, but this past episode with the creepy serial killer and multiple bloody corpses got me really scared, so I think I'll stick with my two Thursday shows. I LOVE Ugly Betty. I love any of those "it's not what's on the outside, but what's on the inside that counts" kind of shows or movies.

It's been so cold lately, we were contemplating turning on the heater, but we're trying to stick it out until November. Our poorly-insulated townhome is about the same temperature as being outdoors, sometimes even colder. :(
