the things we've learned...
Byron and I are discovering a lot about each other on this trip. Even though we've been married for over four years, there's nothing like going to a foreign country, stepping out of our daily routines to see things in sharper relief. For example, even though I've known this about Byron for awhile, this trip is bringing it out more obviously: he moves quickly. What I mean is, he washes up quickly, packs his stuff quickly, even walks pretty quickly. I, on the other hand, am a total slowpoke.
The other major realization: We are too old for hostels. It took several nights to figure this out, but it's really hitting us now that we're in Prague. It's not that we mind the meager, dorm-like amenities (going outside to shower and use the bathroom)...it's more that we're realizing that we're in another place in terms of lifestyle. The slamming doors, people rolling in at 3 am drunk and loud, crowds of American collegians looking to go clubbing or bar hopping...just not our thing. The last time we were in Europe was 6 years ago and we traveled in a group of 4. We remember staying up late in each other's rooms, playing cards late at night--fun times. But this time we realized, when it's just the two of us, it's worth it to pay a bit more to have privacy. Can't always be cheapos in everything! :)
We are still having a good time enjoying the sights, despite the raucous living conditions. Here are some more pics from our time in Berlin...

Okay, the internet connection is pretty weak. Gotta get to bed...hopefully we can sleep past the noisy, smoky common room...
